Grazing: Easy, Green and Healthy

One more example of how eating well and buying green don't have to cost more.

Grazing isn't just good for cows! Humans benefit from spreading out their food comsumption into 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day. My favorite grazing meals are also simple affairs. A platter of grapes, some nuts, a tidbit of leftover pizza or soup.

My husband and I were enjoying just such a meal last night when my daugther and her boyfriend stopped by with a tub of Aris Natural Food non-dairy garlic spread. On a cracker with a slice of radish, it was the perfect complement to our light supper. Samantha found the garlic spread in her Silver Lake neighborhood, but it is also available to us at the Mar Vista Farmer's Market.

I stopped by the Aris Natural Food booth at the Mar Vista Farmers' Market and bought a tub of garlic mixture, which is actually called Skordalia. Somehow the ingredients, raw garlic extra virgin olive oil potato and fresh lemon, become an almost cheese-like spread. I mentioned to the vendor that I would prefer to use a glass container rather than the plastic one it came in. No problem, as it turns out! Aris will, at no extra charge, become my personal food valet. If I bring a glass container with my name on it and tell him what I want, he will bring it back to Mar Vista Farmers' Market the following week, filled with my requested food. So simple. Glad I asked.

I think my recent viewing of No Impact Man may have nudged me to go the extra "green mile."  Or maybe the influence of attending the Sustainable Works Green Living Workshop last Tuesday.  In any case, I urge you to ask for the greener alternative when you have the opportunity.
