Hunter & The Dirty Jacks "Service Your Soul" with Westside charities at Harvelle's Santa Monica

Hunter & The Dirty Jacks "Service Your Soul" with Westside charities at Harvelle's Santa Monica

I wanted to let you know about a band called Hunter & The Dirty Jacks that's going to be doing something rather unique in the local music community.  Hunter & The Dirty Jacks have been playing around town a lot the last couple of months, venues such as the House of Blues Sunset Foundation Room, Rosenthal Winery, Still Water, House of Blues Anaheim Voodoo Lounge, Harvelle's in Santa Monica, and are going to be playing the Blue Lake Casino outside Eureka, CA at the beginning of February.

The band has a pretty decent rapport with the owner of Harvelle's, which has a great, swanky Santa Monica club and one in Long Beach also.  After the Dirty Jacks show there in November, myself and our frontman, Hunter Ackerman, hung out late talking to the owner, and he offered us a residency every Tuesday in Santa Monica starting January 8th.  Well, Hunter and I got to talking, and we spoke to the owner.  Hunter is a Humanist, which, to make a long story short, believes in helping people and doing what is best for people.  I'm very pro-helping people and wanting to make a difference, and our bandmates are the same way.  Santa Monica has a Pub Crawl every December where people bring food for the homeless and donate money.  While that is great, it kind of struck us all like "why isn't somebody doing this on a regular basis to help these people?  It shouldn't just be once or twice a year."  We decided we wanted to make the residency a food drive to help the homeless and hungry.  The owner of Harvelle's loved this and said he's been wanting to do something like this for a long time.

We talked with some organizations, and met with one based in Malibu called Feed Your Soul.  They are also partnered with another foundation called Magic Music, which dedicates themselves to donating instruments and teaching music to homeless children and foster children.  Well, this all started to come together.

So now we are putting forth this residency starting in January called "Service Your Soul".  There is a cover, and all proceeds from the cover go towards the charities.  Alternatively, if someone brings two containers of food (such as two cans of food), or donate an instrument, they get in with no cover.

Anyway, we think this could be a great way to raise awareness in Los Angeles through music for a good cause.   We'd minimally like you to come check out a show and see the community awareness that is taking place, as well as enjoy the music.  We're all in this together, and we can make this a regular drive to help the underpriviliged.

As an aside, here are a couple of links to the band... just so you know we're actually pretty good musicians also ;-) ... it's blues, soul, and rock and roll.
