A three-day summer carnival hosted by the Los Angeles Police Department will be held on Windward Circle in Venice this weekend with up to 15,000 people expected per day, officials said.
The LAPD West Bureau Summer Carnival will run from noon to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday and is focused on attracting Venice residents and visitors already at Venice Beach, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the Venice Neighborhood Council. Mechanical rides and games will be set up for young children and families and police will be on hand to interact with attendees.
Street closures will begin Wednesday at noon and will remain closed through the weekend. Here is the street closure plan: Windward Avenue from Pacific Avenue to Main Street will be fully closed from noon Wednesday until about 6 a.m. Monday. Windward Circle will be fully closed from noon Wednesday until about 6 a.m. Monday and Grand Avenue will be fully closed from noon Wednesday until about 6 a.m. Monday. Main Street also will be closed to Market Street to the north and to Venice Way on the south.
Police said that Pacific Avenue, Venice Way and Venice Boulevard will all remain open in both directions and also encouraged residents to walk or ride their bikes.
This is the third annual carnival by the LAPD's West Bureau and the first to be held in Venice.
