LAPD Meetings Planned After Venice Skater Beating Incident and Others

Video captures police officers on three different occasions in violent encounters with suspects.

After a series of incidents in which officers were shown using excessive force to apprehend suspects, including a Venice skateboarder, the Los Angles Police Department has to discuss such encounters.

Recently, at the Westminster Senior Center, located at 1234 Pacific Ave., to discuss the recent arrest of Ronald Weekly, 20, the skateboarder who was stopped for riding on the wrong side of the street and then beaten by police in Venice on Aug. 18. 

, which shows a police officer punching Weekly in the face as he is on the ground. The officers involved, part of the LAPD violent task force, a roving unit that patrols different areas throughout Los Angeles based on need, .

The may take up to six months, according LAPD Inspector General Alexander Bustamante.

Another videotape encounter shows a police officer in San Fernando Valley slamming a handcuffed woman to the ground before appearing to give his partner a fist bump. The woman, a nurse who was pulled over for holding a cellphone while driving, suffered face and body bruises.

The Los Angeles Times reported on the third encounter to surface recently in which a woman in South L.A. died in July during a confrontation with police.

The car's digital recording equipment captured a female officer berating the woman and stomping on her genitals during the struggle, according to police, The Times reported. 

The meeting dates and locations have not yet been set.
