A bomb threat against a Culver City preschool caused evacuations today before it was found to be a hoax and a 16-year-old boy suspected of calling in the threat was later taken into custody, police said.

The threat was called in around 3:20 p.m. at Happyland Preschool at 4045 Lafayette Place, according to the Culver City Police Department.

Officers responded and evacuated the school and neighboring residents, police said.

After using bomb-sniffing dogs to sweep the campus, "the area was deemed safe and the call determined to be a hoax," according to a police statement.

Detectives investigated the origin of the call and police announced shortly before 7 p.m. that the boy, a Culver City resident, had been taken into custody.
