Photos: Truck Crashes into Venice Restaurant

Driver smashes into Lincoln Boulevard restaurant while fleeing from police, injuring five people.

A man fleeing police mowed down a cyclist and crashed his vehicle into Wurstküche restaurant in Venice on Sunday, injuring five people, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The chase began at Speedway and 20th Street at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, continuing northbound to Lincoln Boulevard and ending shortly thereafter when the suspect smashed into the german-style restaurant at 625 Lincoln Blvd. after hitting a cyclist, who suffered a broken leg."Four to five people in the restaurant complained of pain," said Lt. Marco Munoz of the Los Angeles Police

Department Pacific's Station, adding that they were transported to hospitals for evaluation and treatment, along with the suspect, who had "a bruise in his eye area and said he could not move."

Once released from the hospital, the suspect will be booked on suspicion of felony hit and run and felony evading, the lieutenant said.

The restaurant was shut down after sustaining structural damage when the truck crashed through the glass and panel wall, he said.
