Located near his former office in the West Los Angeles Municipal Building, the Bill Rosendahl West Los Angeles Youth Center will offer a multi-purpose room for the cadet and junior cadet programs.

“I was just doing my job,” Rosendahl said. “That’s our job as public officials—To serve our people.”

The after school cadet program empowers youth with leadership, scholastic and life skills with class instruction and tutoring for students aged seven to 21, according to officials.

LAPD West L.A. Division Capt. Evangelyn Nathan said Rosendahl allocated a room within the municipal building to help facilitate the program. There was limited space available within the West L.A. Police Department Community Station across the street.

Fundraising efforts by The Friends of West Los Angeles made the expansion of a new multi-purpose room possible, Nathan said. The Bill Rosendahl West Los Angeles Youth Center will serve as a meeting place for parent meetings, instruction and a tutoring center to ensure cadet’s maintain the required GPA.

“Bill’s spirit and the values he brought will live on with this room,” Councilman Mike Bonin said. “He’s taught us all that you can do anything in life and I hope that every student  who walks through it recognizes this.”

A grand opening ceremony will be scheduled at a later date.
