LAPD Pacific Division Issues Smartphone Theft Warning

Increase in smartphone thefts in West LA prompts LAPD to issue advice.

By City News Service

Thefts of smartphones in West Los Angeles have spiked, prompting a warning from police Thursday for people to keep an eye on their phones.

More than 70 iPhones and other high-tech devices have been stolen recently, including four last week, in the LAPD Pacific Division. That area includes Mar Vista, Venice, Del Rey, Westchester and much of the Mid City district.

Police urged people to be aware of their surroundings when using their phones, and recommended that they find a crowded area to make calls.
