LAPD Search for Parolee Near Venice Pier Comes Up Empty

The LAPD briefly sets up a perimeter Tuesday night in the area south of the Venice Pier, looking for a parolee-at-large.

Residents near the Marina Peninsula heard the familiar sounds of LAPD helicopters Tuesday night as police searched for a parolee-at-large who was spotted around 9:30 p.m.

"He got a jump on them, because he was on a bike," Lt. Mark Day of the LAPD's Pacific Division told Patch. "He spotted the officers, and he took off."

The suspect has been allegedly involved in a lot of thefts, Day said, although he did not know what the suspect was on parole for.

Police blocked off the end of Washington Boulevard, and partway down the peninsula between Pacific Avenue and Strongs Drive for a little less than an hour before calling off the search.

"He's got several places in there, and they think he's gotten indoors," Day said. "But we know who he is."
