Update: LAPD Shoots Man Wielding a Knife Near Mar Vista's Jack in the Box

The suspect was shot once in the stomach and is expected to survive.

Update 4:45 p.m. A Patch crime reporter happened to be listening to the police scanner overnight at the time of the incident and heard the following:

2:30 a.m.  Washington Place and Centinela Avenue, Mar Vista:
A Pacific Division LAPD patrol unit has stopped a vehicle at the location, and radioed the dispatcher to send another patrol unit for "back-up."

Then, heard from one of the officer's police radio, the LAPD officers are yelling to the person they have stopped, and the first officer's voice can be heard saying, "Put down that now!"

Then a second officer's voice is heard yelling, "Put down the knife!"

The first officer yells again, "Put down that..."

The transmission ends.

Immediately after the transmission ends, the Pacific Division LAPD dispatcher radios out to all Pacific Division units that there is a "ROVER activation" (ROVER stands for Remote Out-of-Vehicle Emergency Radio), and the dispatcher broadcasts to the units, "Officer needs help."

2:31 a.m.  Washington Place and Centinela Avenue, Mar Vista:

The dispatcher continues the broadcast with the location of the officers in need. "Washington Place and Centinela, officer needs help. Washington Place and Centinela." The dispatcher also requests a supervisor to the scene.

911 receives calls for "shots heard" at Washington Place and Centinela, and the dispatcher notifies the patrol officers responding."Washington Place and Centinela, shots fired. Officer needs help! Washington Place and Centinela, shots fired. Officer needs help!" The dispatcher requests an air unit (LAPD helicopter) to respond to the location.

2:32 a.m.  Washington Place and Centinela Avenue, Mar Vista:

The LAPD officer at the scene radios the dispatcher, and excitedly requests, "Officer/R.A.!(Officer-involved shooting, send a rescue ambulance) Male, conscious and breathing."

The dispatcher confirms with the officers that there is "one (alleged) suspect in custody" (the one injured by gunfire) and another alleged suspect is being taken into custody, "near the Jack-in-the-Box.
