Man, Cement Mixer Tangle

The incident happened on South Alla Road in Venice.

A man who got stuck inside a moving cement mixer Friday in Venice was hospitalized in serious condition, a city fire official said.

It  happened about 4:35 p.m. in the 4100 block of South Alla Road, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"The adult male, described as a casual laborer, is reported to have purposely jumped into the mixer while it was moving," Humphrey said. "He suffered a severe left foot, ankle and leg injury."

Coworkers were pulling the man out of the mixer as rescuers were arriving at the scene, Humphrey said.

The man's condition, Humphrey said, was serious and potentially debilitating, but not life-threatening. He was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for treatment.

Cal OSHA was notified of the event.
