A man in his 50s is believed to have deliberately jumped to his death Monday from a four-story building in Venice, authorities reported.

Police and fire personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of East Westminster Avenue, near the intersection with Innes Place, shortly after 10 a.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Katherine Main.

"We were called to the scene of an apparent suicide and the person was pronounced dead at 10:11 a.m.," Main said.

Officer Sally Madera, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman, also said the death appeared to be a suicide.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification of his family.

As expensive as it has become to have any kind of life in this town I'm surprised people aren't jumping off rooftops 7 days a week.

Yeah, catman...probably because they can't afford to go to the rooftop... :-)
