A man who may be suffering from mental illness was arrested after he slashed the tires of at least 10 cars in Venice on Tuesday night, police said.
Officers were called to the area of Washington Boulevard and Ocean Front Walk around 9 p.m. and apprehended a man in his 30s, said Lt. Marco Munoz of the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station.
Officers recovered a knife they believe the suspect used to slash the tires of the cars, some of which were parked on the street and some in a parking lot near the beach, Munoz said.
"He seems to be suffering from some kind of mental illness," Munoz said.
The suspect is not a transient, but Munoz said he did not know where he lived.
Police withheld the suspect's name.
