Update: Police Arrest Parolee at Large in Garvanza

Residents are advised to stay clear of the neighborhood while the pursuit is ongoing.

Sergeant Mkrtchyan of LAPD Northeast said the man, whose name is not being released to the public, is now in custody.

"He was arrested within our perimeter without incident," Mkrtchyan said. "He was not armed.

According to the Mkrtchyan, the man was wanted for violating the terms of his parole.

Police are currently in pursuit of a man in the Garvanza area of Highland Park who fled LAPD officers who attempted to arrest him for a felony warrant.

According to Sergeant Asatur Mkrtchyan, officers recognized the man, who they knew had a felony warrant, and approach him on Wednesday afternoon at around 1:30 p.m.

"They recognized him, they who he was. When he saw the officers, he ran away," Mkrtchyan said.

It is not known if the man is armed, however, a post on LAPD Northeast's Facebook page advises community members to stay away from the Garvanza area while the pursuit is ongoing.

A police helicopter could be seen hovering over the neighborhood as of 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mkrtchyan did not know what the man's warrant was for.

A police-perimeter has been set up around the neighborhood, with command center at Avenue 60 and Repton Avenue.

Mkrtchyan said that, as of 2:30 p.m., police had cornered the man between two houses and were about to begin K9 search.
