Property Crimes Continue to Plague Venice

Polie say that among the 85 crimes committed in Venice between Feb. 21 and March 20, most were robberies and burglaries.

Property crimes continue to plague Venice with more than 60 burglaries and robberies reported from mid-February to mid-March, police said.

Senior Lead Officer Peggy Thusing of the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division during a report to the Venice Neighborhood Council on March 20 said 85 crimes had been committed between Feb. 21 and March 20 in the area bounded by Lincoln Boulevard to the east, Via Marina to the south and the border with Santa Monica to the north. There were three assaults, 16 auto burglaries, 23 burglaries, five grand theft autos, three grand theft persons, one rape and 27 robberies, Thusing said.

The LAPD's Pacific Division also has its own Facebook page and officers have been undergoing training on how to use it, Thusing said. The page has been up since Feb. 7.

The entire Pacific Division, which includes Mar Vista, Del Rey, Playa del Rey, Westchester and Playa Vista, had 43 violent crimes (21 robberies and 22 aggravated assaults) for the period between Jan. 29 and Feb. 25. In that same period there were 354 property crimes reported (67 burglaries, 74 grand theft autos, 96 vehicle burglaries, 117 personal/other theft).
