Rash of Vehicle Break-Ins Prompts Safety Tips from Police

Smashed windows have been a way crooks have gained access to vehicles.

Cars in the areas patrolled by the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Division were the targets of thieves last week with 29 reports of burglary and theft from motor vehicles, according to a Facebook post by the department.

Police noted as well that "During the last four weeks we have seen an increase of window smashes," predominantly in the Palms area, according to the post.

Police recommend the following actions to protect your property:

  • Don't leave valuables in your vehicle (purses, laptops)
  • Don't leave any non-valuables in your vehicle (change, bags)
  • Don't leave anything in your vehicle that is visible from the outside.
LAPD Pacific Division also asks the public to contact police "if you see suspicious activity like a person who appears to be checking door handles, or looking into numerous vehicles."
