Two Arrested as Police Confronts Crowd of 400 at Venice Beach

The crowd, a weekly drum circle, had failed to disperse after sunset, officials reported.

Two people were arrested during a confrontation between Los Angeles police officers and a crowd of about 400 people gathered on Venice Beach, authorities said today.

The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday near Ocean Front Walk, Los Angeles police Officer Sally Madera of the Media Relations office said.

The people had gathered for a weekly drum circle event at the beach, but failed to disperse after sunset, as was required, Madera said.

An officer was treated for a minor leg injury during the confrontation. The names of the arrestees were not immediately released. The crowd dispersed by about 9 p.m., Madera said.
