Worker Was Also Injured in Plane Crash

The pilot wasn't the only person injured in . A worker also suffered injuries, a Santa Monica police spokesman tells Santa Monica Patch.

The worker "suffered minor injuries from flying debris, was treated and transported to a local hospital," Sgt. Robert Almada said. The injuries were to the worker's hair and hand.

Painters were working on a home near 21st and Navy when the plane crashed into it, according to ABC7. They and another person attended to the situation, assisting the pilot out of the plane and dousing a small fire with a garden hose.

The pilot suffered a compound leg fracture. The individual, whose name has not yet been released, is a student pilot, according to City News Service.

"All victims are in stable condition," Almada said.

Authorities are still at the scene of the incident, which the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. There are plane parts strewn across the yard of the house.

The single-engine Cessna crashed into the house at 2:29 p.m., shortly after taking off from Santa Monica Airport. Almada said the house is a single-family dwelling and that the plane crashed into its rear corner.

The student pilot was practicing takeoffs and landings, according to City News Service.

The cause of the crash has not yet been made known.

The plane "crashed just after takeoff [or a go-around] into a residential backyard under unknown circumstances," said Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration, according to CNS.

Representatives for SMO and the NTSB have not yet responded to Santa Monica Patch's requests for further comment.
