5 Venice Pot Shops Survive Prop D Closings

The marijuana dispensaries are among 135 stores allowed to remain open by the City of Los Angeles.

Five Venice marijuana dispensaries were listed among 135 weed shops in Los Angeles that will be permitted to remain open by the city following the voter approved Proposition D.

Those allowed to remain open in Venice are:

  • California Alternative Care Givers, 122 Lincoln Blvd.
  • Nile Collective Corporation, 1501 Pacific Ave.
  • The Green Goddess Collective, 70 Windward Ave.
  • The Farmacy, 1509 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
  • Venice Beach Care Center, 410 Lincoln Blvd.

Proposition D, passed by voters in May, calls for a drastic reduction in the amount of medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles and allows only 135 dispensaries to remain open.

Those 135 selected dispensaries have been permitted to remain open because they registered with the city prior to ordinances passed by the City Council in 2007.

In addition, a spokesperson for the city attorney's office told KPCC that to make the list of 135, those businesses also had to be registered with the city in 2011 and under Measure M, which began taxing the sale of marijuana.

While the Beach Enlightenment and Compassionate Healing Center can remain open, Proposition D could potentially close down up to 1,000 marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles, the Daily News reported.
