Bonin Ready to Get to Work on His ‘Access 11’ Plan

The plan will utilize direct personal outreach and technology so constituents will have access to City Hall.

On the heels of Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti’s ‘Back to Basics’ series, incoming CD 11 Councilmember Mike Bonin says he will begin implementing his multi-pronged plan to connect his constituents with City Hall.

Following Saturday’s event with Garcetti at Mar Vista’s Windward School, Bonin posted the following on his Facebook page:

“I don't want to be one of those politicians who claims credit he does not deserve. While I was happy to promote and co-host yesterday's "Back to Basics" Town Hall and listening tour, I want to be clear that the vision, the legwork and the inspiration came from Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti and his tremendous team. I share his community organizer's spirit -- we'll be demonstrating that by implementing my "Access 11" plan after I take office. Thanks to everyone for a great turnout yesterday -- and for the tremendous commitment to civic engagement, to strengthening our neighborhoods, and to making Los Angeles a better place.”

The “Access 11” plan  - which Bonin unveiled ahead of the election - will use direct personal outreach and technology to help residents connect.

“For eight years, I have worked with Bill Rosendahl, who has set new standards for accessibility and transparency,” Bonin said in a statement. “I want to achieve the same thing, but in my own way.  City Hall can seem pretty far away, and I want to do everything I can to bring it to our neighborhoods.”

Calling his plan a “Mayberry approach” with an “iPhone sensibility,” Bonin’s plan includes:

Neighborhood Office Hours
Held on weekends and evenings at Farmer’s Markets, local fire or police stations, senior centers, libraries or neighborhood shops.

Neighborhood Service Fairs

Held with city departments responsible for maintaining streets, parks, and public safety.

Hikes with Mike
Neighbors can join Bonin for informal discussions during hikes throughout areas including the Santa Monica Mountains, the Ballona Wetlands, or the coast.

Neighborhood Coffees
Held in backyards and living rooms to hear from residents to hear issues and concerns before they become problems and crises.

Going Door to Door
Bonin and his staff will invite volunteers and neighborhood leaders to join him and help engage new people into community activism.

Internet Testimony
Encouraging the use of free technology, like Skype or Facetime, to allow residents to testify at city hearings from work or the comfort of home.

Virtual Town Halls
Held throughout the district on important topics, and the opportunity to participate remotely.  Bonin will livestream the Town Halls and use technology like Google Moderator to make sure people can participate.
