Caltrans Plans to Repair Venice Boulevard

Work on Venice Boulevard scheduled to start this summer.

Caltrans plans to do major repair work on Venice Boulevard beginning in July or August, according to Caltrans representatives.

The $2 million project will include "cold plane overlays, hot mix asphalt and digouts" and will impact Venice Boulevard including from Lincoln to Sawtelle Boulevards, according to Caltrans spokeswoman Maria Raptis.

Raptis said some repair work began before CicLAvia and will continue.

"Before the project begins, they'll be doing some more pothole repairs," Raptis said.

A group of about 20 locals, led by Mar Vista resident Linda Jones, gathered on Sunday at the intersection of Venice and Grandview boulevards to protest their disapproval of the condition of Venice Boulevard.

Jones said she has complained to Caltrans for two years about the problem. Raptis said the complaints from Jones and others that have been received are appreciated.

"We appreciate her effort and caring about the safety and the streets, and we do pay attention to that and identify things on the roadway," Raptis said. "We appreciate it. The public are our eyes and ears."

Raptis said the project would most likely be completed by the fall of 2014.
