City Attorney Files Complaint Against Planned Mar Vista Pot Shop

The city attorney has filed a civil action to prevent a medical marijuana dispensary from opening in Mar Vista.

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer on Thursday filed a civil enforcement action targeting a medical marijuana dispensary planning to move into a Mar Vista location residents maintain is illegal.

Though many of the more than 200 concerned community members who filled the Mar Vista Recreation center to overflow capacity in October to discuss the planned pot shop at 3472 S. Centinela Ave. supported Proposition D and believe in the use of medical marijuana, they object to the shop's location because it is bounded by residences on three sides and does not meet Prop D's location requirements.

Feuer's complaint on behalf of the city says the dispensary is illegal due to its location and attempts to halt its opening. The complaint lists six individuals as defendants, three California Limited Liability companies and up to 15 unnamed others.

The action comes on the heels of more than 50 criminal cases the city attorney has filed against dispensary operators and property owners throughout Los Angeles.

“My office is working diligently to uphold the will of the voters in passing Proposition D in May, and we are collaborating with the Los Angeles Police Department and Building and Safety to aggressively enforce the law,” said Feuer.
