Design Competition Wants Entries

Calling all graphic designers and anyone who wants to enter the TAP card design competition.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation is holding a TAP card design competition in partnership with a downtown Los Angeles arts organization, it was announced Tuesday.

TAP fare cards are used on the city's DASH and Commuter Express buses, as well as for regional public transit.

The theme for the card design submissions is "downtown Los Angeles." The competition is open to artists and designers, 18 years old and up, who work or live in Los Angeles.

The deadline for submissions is Dec. 18. In January, a five-person panel will choose two winners, each of whom will receive $500 cash and a $500 gift certificate to an arts and architectural supply store.

The design competition "is an incredible opportunity for local artists to get creative, and be recognized in a very big way by having their designs in the hands of thousands of LADOT riders," said Nic Cha Kim, president and co- founder of the Gallery Row Organization.
