PROTEST OF SANTA MONICA AIRPORT

LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCILMAN BILL ROSENDAHL TO JOIN RESIDENTS OF LOS ANGELES AND SANTA MONICA AT THIS TIMELY PROTEST

    Los Angeles, CA.  –
Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution (CRAAP) is inviting all who are interested in expressing their opposition to Santa Monica Airport, to join in protest of the extreme toxic air pollution, the extreme noise pollution, and the unreasonable safety threats from the aircraft operations at Santa Monica Airport (SMO). The protest will assemble on Sunday, October 16, 2011at 1:00 PM on the north east corner of National Boulevard and Bundy Drive, just east of the airport, Los Angeles, 90064.

Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl will join residents from both Los Angeles and Santa Monica at the protest gathering. His Los Angeles District includes the West Los Angeles neighborhoods of Venice and Mar Vista that are heavily impacted by air and noise pollution from SMO. Safety issues are also a great concern to the airport’s neighbors.

“Ultimately responsible for the conditions that exist are the City of Santa Monica, owner and operator of the airport, and the Federal Aviation Administration, who get their operating rules from Congress. Coincidently, a huge portion of the communities concerns emanate from the wealthiest one percent who find it convenient and comfortable to use SMO to fly into and out of it in their highly polluting private jets. Actors, directors, producers, writers from the entertainment industry; the wealthy in
professional sports; and of course your top corporate executives all are also a part of the problem that exists today at Santa Monica Airport. Where are our environmental leaders from the entertainment industry, and why aren’t they speaking up?” asks CRAAP Director Martin Rubin.  “This is the fifth protest over the past several years regarding SMO. Apparently, Santa Monica and the FAA continue to be complacent and comfortable with spewing a heavy dose of toxic soup into the surrounding communities.”
