Hotel Developer Caves to Public Pressure at Meeting

The developer is going back to the drawing board; activists say they want more concessions.

Vocal residents showed up Wednesday night to air their thoughts about the proposed hotel for 1033 Abbot Kinney Blvd. at a Venice Neighborhood Council Land Use and Planning Commission meeting at Oakwood Recreation Center.

A Facebook post reads:

"Beyond grateful for all the community members who came out tonight to the LUPC meeting in opposition to the 92-room Abrams hotel. Over a hundred of you came out to make your voice heard. Thanks to all the pressure you put on the developer, he's finally agreed to the easiest concession - reducing the hotel's height from 4 stories to 3. But we have miles to go before we're done. Abrams' and his partners still have not made any adjustments to scale and mass, nor have they dealt with the inadequate parking or the traffic issues this project would generate for the surrounding neighborhood.

"This is far from settled. The hotel must now go back to the drawing board and come back to LUPC. Stay tuned, stay engaged folks, it's going to be a long and bumpy ride."
