Last Chance to File Nominating Petitions for L.A. City Primary Elections

Nominating and supplement petitions are all due to the city clerk's office by Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.

Los Angeles City Clerk June Lagmay reminds all candidates for the 2013 Primary Nominating Election that the deadline to file their nominating petitions, and supplemental petitions if required, is Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.

In order to appear on the March 5, 2013 ballot, candidates for the offices of Mayor, City Attorney and City Controller; Los Angeles City Council Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15; Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education Districts 2, 4 and 6, and Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees Seats 2, 4 and 6, must file nominating petitions.

When filing a nominating petition, each candidate must choose to either a) pay a filing fee of $300 and submit valid signatures of at least 500 but no more than 1,000 qualified, registered voters within their applicable jurisdictions or b) waive the filing fee and submit valid signatures of at least 1,000 but not more than 2,000 qualified, registered voters within their applicable jurisdictions.

Supplemental petitions may be filed by candidates who filed early but did not meet the required number of qualified voters’ signatures. However, please note that all supplemental petitions must be filed by the same deadline as nominating petitions, which is Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.
