Mar Vista Community Council Candidate: Kate Anderson

atch asked the Mar Vista candidates a few questions to help voters decide in the Oct. 28 election.

Editor’s note: This is the an article in a series of profiles on Mar Vista candidates that Patch will be running leading up to the election.

What would you prioritize if you were voted in?

I have served on the Mar Vista Community Council since 2008 and loved every minute of it.  Mar Vista is like its own little small town in the midst of a big city. Neighbors know each other, we walk our streets, we see each other at the Farmer's Market. I feel safe allowing my daughters to play in the community. The Mar Vista Community Council has been a part of making all of that happen and I take great joy in helping to foster that.

My priority as a Council member has been to serve my constituents, to make sure that the city is working for them in Mar Vista and to support our schools. Many move to Mar Vista because of the terrific schools we have here and all of them deserve the support of the Community Council.  I have shown that on my service on the Community Council.  I served as the co-chair of the Education Committee and helped to facilitate grants to support everything from Learning Gardens to Music Programs to Computer Labs.

I have also been a consistent and strong supporter of the environmental initiatives of our Green Committee.

Who are your primary supporters?

I'm proud to say that I have widespread support throughout the community both geographically and across the different issue areas.

What issue do you feel most strongly about and what’s your position?

Education is my top priority. All kids deserve a terrific education no matter where they come from.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.

Thank you, David, for your lucid and edifying dissertation on Passover. You just about said itRead More all...I would only add that if people get a chance during the holiday to view the movie version of Fiddler On The Roof they will get a truly inspiring feeling for what it meant - and means - to be Jewish.
