Official 70th Assembly Candidates List Released

The certified list of candidates competing in the June 5 primary election are released by California Secretary of State Debra Bowen. The 70th Assembly District includes Belmont Shore and Naples.

The California Secretary of State's office Thursday announced the certified list of candidates who will compete for the 70th Assembly District in the June 5 primary election.

  • Bonnie Lowenthal: Democrat / Long Beach / Assemblymember and educator
  • Martha Flores Gibson: Republican / Long Beach / Teacher and business owner

The top two vote-getters in the June 5 primary election will advance to the Nov. 6 general election regardless of party preference or whether one candidate receives a majority of votes in the primary. The primary election will include elections for U.S. President, the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as state Senate and state Assembly seats.

Lowenthal is the incumbent in the district.

As of Jan. 3, 2012, there were 229,060 registered voters in the 70th Assembly District with 49 percent registered as Democrats and 25 percent registered as Republicans.
