Pancakes with LAPD, Walk with Garcetti Saturday in Venice

Venice and Mar Vista community members have two events they can attend Saturday.

One is an Open House and Pancake Breakfast at the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station, 12312 Culver Boulevard, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The other is a Community Walk with the Mayor held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Recreation Center.

The open house is free; the pancake breakfast costs $5 per person. The open house will include guided tours of the facility, games, a raffle, LAPD specialized units and all-terrain vehicles, a safety booth from the California Highway Patrol and a display from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet LAPD Pacific Division officers, the Pacific Beach detail, firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department's Station 63, Los Angeles County lifeguards, staff from the Department of Public Health and other city groups.

The Open House & Pancake Breakfast is staged by the Pacific Area Boosters Association, which uses proceeds to support Pacific Area youth programs and Pacific Area Station. Proceeds from the pancake breakfast will go to the boosters. Tickets may be purchased in advance online via paypal.

The event with Mayor Eric Garcetti will begin at 9:30 a.m. with coffee. Attendees will then be invited to walk door-to-door to engage the community, according to event sponsor the Venice Neighborhood Council.

After the walk, the mayor's office will provide a barbecue.

Oakwood Recreation Center is at 767 California Avenue.
