Rosendahl Rep. Encourages Opposition to City Redistricting Plan

LA City Councilman Bill Rosendahl's office asks Pali Community Council members to speak out against the latest round of proposed city council redistricting.

A representative from Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl's office urged the Pacific Palisades Community Council on Jan. 26 to oppose the latest plan for city council redistricting.

"Instead of trimming along the edges, the [redistricting] commission is considering amputating the bulk of Westchester and part of Playa Vista from the rest of our district," according to a letter written by Rosendahl. "Doing so would divide communities that share a neighborhood council, a chamber of commerce, and a community plan area. And it makes no sense to tear Westchester from Los Angeles International Airport, which dramatically impacts its quality of life and economic activity."

The proposed redistricting plan, , "basically cuts out Westchester [from Council District 11] but keeps LAX under the tutelage of the council member," Rosendahl staffer Arturo Piña told Patch. "[Rosendahl] has some very strong concerns about that because it splits the community in half, and that community would have to work with two council members which makes it very difficult to get policies and/or the attention of various entities, various organizations."

Every 10 years following the US census, city council districts must be redrawn to properly reflect the current population. Council District 11 has 10,000 too many residents, "so we need to trim a little and redistribute some of our territory," Rosendahl's letter states.

In opposition to the latest proposed redistricting plan, the councilman is circulating a petition and will host a public meeting Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Westchester.

How much City Funding does Rosendahl loos if they take away Westchester? How much money does Westchester need from the Airport to keep up the current and future beautification plans on Sepulveda?
