Sen. Ted Lieu to Hold Santa Monica Airport Air Quality Hearing Wednesday

The public hearing will take place at 6 p.m. on Nov. 30, headed by State Sen. Ted Lieu, chair of the Senate Select Committee on Air Quality.

 

Senator Ted Lieu will preside over a public hearing Wednesday night, to review local, regional and federal air studies that address posed by pollution from Santa Monica Airport.  

Lieu, who is head of the Senate Select Committee on Air Quality, will be joined by several pollution experts as well as local 11th District Councilman Bill Rosendahl.

According to a release by the committee, experts due to testify at the hearing include Dr. Phil Fine of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, who will review air pollution basics; Dr. John Froines of UCLA’s School of Public Health, who will outline how air pollution affects public health; and Dr. Shahram Yazdani of UCLA, who will make a presentation on health impacts.

Mar Vista's very own local resident, who heads the organization Concerned Residents Against Airport Polluttion (CRAAP), will also testify at the hearing, to discuss how the airport has negatively impacted the surrounding community. He will be joined by Kathy Levitt, Mindy Taylor-Ross and Laura Silagi of the Santa Monica Airport ad-hoc committee of the Venice Neighborhood Council.

The meeting will take place at the Felicia Mahood Multipurpose Senior Center Community Room, 11338 Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles 90025 at 6 p.m. on Wed. Nov. 30.
