Polls will close at 8 p.m. today, and residents will choose a new mayor as well as a new city council member who represents the Westside.

Los Angeles city residents today are voting for a new mayor, two propositions, school board members and several new city council members.

Council District 11 candidates include Mike Bonin, Odysseus Bostick, Tina Hess and Frederick Sutton.

Residents are also voting for two propositions. Prop. A would raise the sales tax in the city of Los Angeles to 9.5 percent, and is expected to generate $215 million per year. Prop. B would allow some city employees to transfer their retirement plan if they transfer to the Los Angeles Police Department.
