Venice Districts Stay Blue

From Sacramento to D.C., Venice is sending Democrats to represent.

Local Democrats fared well in Tuesday's elections, retaining seats in Congress, the state Assembly and the state Senate.

California overall stayed well in the blue, electing Democrats Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer as governor and U.S. senator, respectively. Even the state attorney's race may tilt unexpectedly toward the Democrats.

Locally, Jane Harman handily won re-election to Congress. Betsy Butler fended off for the 53rd District Assembly seat, and state Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who died earlier this fall, won re-election. A special election will be called to fill her seat.
