Winograd to Join Santa Monica Earth Day Protest

Marcy Winograd, who is running in the 36th Congressional District race will attend today's rally at Santa Monica Airport to protest the use of leaded gasoline in propeller planes.

Marcy Winograd has officially announced  that she will participate in today's , aimed at increasing awareness about the dangers of leaded gasoline being used by propeller planes. 

Sponsored by the Venice Neighborhood Council's Santa Monica Airport Committee, the rally will take place at Bundy Dr. and Airport Ave., at the east end of the airport from 3 - 5 p.m.

In an official release from her campaign office Thursday, Winograd said, "In Congress I will introduce legislation to prohibit jet-use at airports where there is no buffer zone –  and to restrict leaded aircraft  flights near schools and parks."

Winograd stated in the release she will address possible next steps in curbing airport air and noise pollution at SMO.

"Our children should be able to play at the park and learn in school without breathing leaded gasoline. Local residents are fed up with the constant barrage of piston aircraft, and I don't blame them.  We need to put the health of our families at the top of our priority list," she said.

The two other Democratic candidates running against Winograd - Debra Bowen and Janice Hahn - have also been invited to participate in the rally. 

, founder of Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution (CRAAP)  told Mar Vista Patch organizers have not yet heard whether Bowen will attend, but that Hahn has already stated  she will be unable to make the event.
