Mark Twain Middle School Teacher Among LAUSD ‘Teachers of the Year’

Ron Thiele - who heads the Mark Twain Bell Ringers – was among 21 teachers honored earlier this month.

Twenty-one Los Angeles Unified School Teachers were honored as ‘Teachers of the Year’ by Superintendent John Deasy earlier this month. Among them was Mark Twain Middle School’s Ron Thiele.

Thiele, who teaches math, science and music said in a statement, “Seeing  students overcome their personal and academic challenges is the ‘brass ring.’

Thiele is also the brains and driving force behind the school’s bell ringers program, which performed at the London Olympics last year.

According to an LAUSD statement, all 21 teachers honored were recognized for “their exemplary and creative teaching, which helps make a difference in the lives of their students, their school and the community.”

Superintendent John Deasy said, “Congratulations to these outstanding teachers who use their professional skills, talent, creativity and life lessons to instruct, encourage, push, prod and help students do better and excel.”
