Hoops Players Named to All-League Squad

Captain Chad Tanioka makes boys' First Team while four Gondolier girls are selected to the Second Team.

Chad Tanioka, the leading scorer for the Venice High boys varsity basketball team this season, has been selected to the All-Western League First Team by a panel of league coaches.

The 5' 9" junior guard was the only Gondoliers player named to the First Team. Tanioka averaged 16.7 points and 1.4 steals per game and scored a season-high 36 points in an 89-66 victory over West Adams Prep on December 10. He was team captain along with senior guard Kyle Smith, who led the team in assists per game (2.6), and senior center Keaton Frey, who led the squad in rebounding (4.1).

The boys finished fifth in the Western League and lost to Verdugo Hills in the first round of the City Section Division II playoffs.
