Little League All-Stars Lose Playoff Opener

North Venice's 10-11 team is routed by West LA in the District 25 Tournament.

Tuesday night's game against West Los Angeles in the 10 & 11-year-old division of the Little League Baseball All-Star District 25 Tournament is one North Venice can throw away and forget.

West LA pounded 16 hits in a 21-1 rout that was halted prematurely because sprinklers went on in the infield while West LA was batting in the bottom of the third inning at the Ladera Little League complex.

Umpires convened and declared that the game would be concluded Wednesday, but North Venice manager Fernando Ramos had seen enough and conceded the loss.

"It was pointless to continue the game at that juncture," Ramos said. "We'll mark this one down in the 'L' column and get ready [for our next game] Thursday."

After plating four runs in the first inning, West LA batters kept right on swinging--and connecting--in the second. Andrew Coles hit a solo home run to center field and capped the scoring with a three-run blast to right in the third inning.
