Manoogian Named Alpha League Volleyball MVP

Five Windward School players make the team and Michelle McGuire is Coach of the Year.

The Alpha League boys volleyball All-League team has been selected and it is no surprise that the list is full of players.

The Wildcats tied Brentwood School for the league title this spring (both teams going 7-1) and one reason was the play of junior outside hitter , who was named Alpha League Most Valuable Player. Wildcats junior setter also made the first team.

Manoogian pounded 220 kills and added 118 digs, 46 aces and 31 blocks as the Wildcats advanced to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs where they lost in four sets to eventual champion, Santa Monica.

Pion racked up 449 set assists, 61 kills, 73 digs, 17 aces and 32 blocks. He had a season-high 38 assists in a four-set win over Laguna Blanca on April 23 and had 37 assists three days later in a five-set loss at Alpha League rival Brentwood.

This is the sixth consecutive year that a Windward player has been chosen league MVP.

Rounding out the first team are Spencer Ramsey, Brandon Nel and Greg Oliva of Brentwood, Jake Hurwitz and Taylor Moldo of Crossroads, Christian Sveiven of Paraclete and Griffin McKinzie of Campbell Hall.

Making the second team for Windward are freshman outside hitter/setter , senior opposite hitter and senior libero . Pion had 237 kills, 126 digs, 94 assists, 36 aces and 14 blocks; Gueno had 140 kills, 26 digs and 20 blocks; and Lytle had 121 digs and 10 aces.

Rounding out the second team are Vadim Reytblat of Brentwood, Jackson Wiley of Campbell Hall, Milo Charny-Rosen and Aaron Lipp of Crossroads and Tyler Brand of Paraclete.

Windward's shared Coach of the Year honors with Brentwood's Jeff Porter. McGuire has guided the Wildcats to the league title in each of her six seasons. She is also Windward's Assistant Athletic Director and runs the school's co-ed summer volleyball camps.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.

Thank you, David, for your lucid and edifying dissertation on Passover. You just about said itRead More all...I would only add that if people get a chance during the holiday to view the movie version of Fiddler On The Roof they will get a truly inspiring feeling for what it meant - and means - to be Jewish.
