Mar Vista Man Takes Sixth Place in Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K

Kevin Purcell took part in the annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K run on Sunday. He previously won the Catalina Marathon in 2011.

More than 6,000 runners competed in this year's Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday 10K/5K Run/Walk in South Redondo Beach, and local Mar Vista resident Kevin Purcell placed 6th overall in the 10K race.

Purcell, 37, completed the race in 00:34:46.

No stranger to long (and short) distance runs, Patch interviewed Purcell back in 2011 when he won the Catalina Marathon, becoming the first person to ever win The American Trail Championship by winning not just the Catalina Marathon, but also the   the Buffalo Run Half Marathon and the Rose Bowl Marathon.

Sunday's event featured a 5K run/walk, a 10K baby buggy race and a standard 10K race at the Redondo Beach Marina.

In addition to Purcell, 10 Venice residents successfully completed the 10K race; four Venice residents completed the 5K race, and one Mar Vista resident completed the 5K race.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.

Thank you, David, for your lucid and edifying dissertation on Passover. You just about said itRead More all...I would only add that if people get a chance during the holiday to view the movie version of Fiddler On The Roof they will get a truly inspiring feeling for what it meant - and means - to be Jewish.
