Running with Holiday Spirit

Santa Monica-Venice Christmas run celebrates 35 years.

Join thousands of runners for the 35th annual Christmas Run from Santa Monica to Venice along side streets and along the boardwalk.

Participants can register online at christmasrun.com or in-person at the packet pickup day on Dec. 7 before the race date Dec. 8. Runners can choose either a 5k or 10k course.

The 10k race begins at 7:30 a.m., the 5k race begins at 9:15 a.m., and the kids run at 10:15 a.m. Runners can register in-person starting at 6 a.m.

Everyone is encouraged to dress up as Santa, elves, reindeer or your favorite holiday costume, and awards will be handed out for best costumes. 

Harvest Home, a housing program for homeless women and children located in Venice, is a charitable partner. To learn more about the race, visitchristmasrun.com.

 

The following streets will be closed for the event:

  • Barnard Way between Ocean Park Boulevard and Neilson Way from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Neilson Way/Pacific Avenue between Ocean Park and Boulevard and South Venice Boulevard.
  • South Venice Boulevard between Ocean Front Walk and Lincoln Boulevard.
  • Abbot Kinney Boulevard between Washington and South Venice boulevards.
  • Ocean Front Walk between South Venice Boulevard and Navy Street.
  • Navy Street between Ocean Front Walk and Pacific Avenue.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.
