Venice High Softball Makes City Invitational Playoffs

The Gondoliers are seeded 18th out of 24 teams and must travel to LA High for the first round.

The City Section softball playoff pairings were determined Monday night and Venice High is seeded No. 18 in the City Invitational bracket. As a result, the Gondoliers will travel to No. 15 Los Angeles in the first round Wednesday at 3 p.m. 

Venice finished third in the Western League behind Palisades and Westchester while Los Angeles went undefeated in the Central League. If Venice prevails Wednesday, it will travel to second-seeded Sylmar in the second round Friday. 

Quarterfinals are May 17, semifinals are May 19 and the Invitational championship game is May 24 at Birmingham High in Lake Balboa.

Five Gondos Make All-League Squad

The All-Western League softball team was also selected and five Venice High players were named to the squad.

Three sophomores made the first team: outfielder/first baseman Bernadette Moran, catcher/third baseman Chae Persinger and pitcher/first baseman/outfielder Milan Casillas. Making the second team were freshman catcher/pitcher Leanna De La Paz and junior third baseman/catcher Gabriela Lopez.

Alexis Muir of Palisades was named Most Valuable Player and Monica Cartwright of Westchester was chosen Pitcher of the Year.
