Windward Stars Named to All-State Hoops Teams

Wesley Saunders and Imani Stafford are Cal-Hi Sports boys and girls second-team choices.

Windward School senior basketball star has been selected to the 33rd annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Boys Basketball Team.

Saunders was voted to after averaging 19.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals in 2010-11. In his four seasons with the program, the Wildcats compiled a 107-28 record and won state titles in two divisions.  

The 6'6'' forward has had quite a year. In addition to this latest accolade, Saunders propelled his team to the Division IV state championship on March 26 in Sacramento, signed to play at Harvard University, was named CIF Southern Section Division 4AA Co-Player of the Year, was named the Division IV State Player of the Year  and made MaxPreps' All-State Third Team.

Joining Saunders on the Cal-Hi  All-State Second Team are senior center Stuart Wesonga of San Marin, junior guard Katin Reinhardt of Mater Dei, senior guard Reese Morgan of Peninsula, junior forward Xavier Johnson of Mater Dei, junior center Grant Jerrett of La Verne Lutheran, senior guard Lonnie Jackson of Valencia, senior guard Spencer Dinwiddie of Taft, junior center Brandon Ashley of Bishop O'Dowd and senior guard Chris Anderson of Anaheim Canyon.

The consists of senior center Ryan Anderson of Long Beach Poly, senior guard Roderick Bobbitt of Castro Valley, senior guard Jabari Brown of Oakland, senior center Angelo Choi of San Diego Hoover, senior forward Dominique Dunning of Corona Centennial, sophomore forward Aaron Gordon of Archbishop Mitty, senior guard Cezar Guerrero of St. John Bosco, senior forward Darius Nelson of Sheldon, senior guard Norman Powell of San Diego Lincoln and senior forward Byron Wesley of Etiwanda.

Windward junior has made the Cal-Hi Sports Boys All-State Underclass Second Team

Not to be outdone by her schoolmate, was named to the 31st annual . The Wildcats' six-foot-seven junior center was voted to the Second Team after leading Windward to the Southern Section Division 4AA and state Division IV titles. The Wildcats won all 20 games in which Stafford played in 2010-11 and she averaged 12.2 points, 12.1 rebounds and 4.3 blocks on her way to being chosen Division IV State Player of the Year.

Joining Stafford on the girls' Second Team are junior guard Jordan Adams of Mater Dei, senior forward Keani Albanez of Ventura Buena, senior center Sheila Boykin of Long Beach Poly, senior forward Moriah Faulk of Santa Monica, senior guard Tear'a Laudermill of Canyon Springs, senior guard Madison Parrish of Hanford, senior forward Erica Payne of Carondelet, senior guard Alexis Perry of Brea Olinda and senior guard Janae' Sharpe of Rialto.

The consists of junior center Aly Beebe of Santa Maria St. Joseph, senior guard Brittany Boyd of Berkeley, senior guard Ariya Crook-Williams of Long Beach Poly, senior forward Ali Gibson of Stockton St. Mary's, senior center Reshonda Gray of Washington, senior center Justine Hartman of Brea Olinda, junior guard Hannah Huffman of Carondelet, senior forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis of Mater Dei, senior forward Bonnie Samuelson of Edison and senior center Alexis Vaioletama of Mater Dei.

The consists of senior forward Saidah Allen of Piedmont, senior forward Jada Blackwell of Etiwanda, senior forward Madeleine Campbell of Del Oro, senior forward Chairese Culberson of Berkeley, senior center Sophia Ederaine of Canyon Springs, senior guard Hailie Eackles of Pinewood, senior guard Danielle Miller of Mt. Miguel, sophomore guard Kelsey Plum of La Jolla Country Day, senior guard Bria Richardson of Gardena Serra and senior guard Ashley Watson of Archbishop Mitty.

Stafford also made the Cal-Hi Sports Girls All-State Underclass Team along with teammates Courtney Jaco (a sophomore) and Jordin Canada (a freshman).

Not to be overlooked is Windward Coach , who was named the 2011 Cal-Hi Sports Girls Basketball Division IV Coach of the Year.
