Best Office Apps, Part 2

As you already know by now, the smartphones in our hands are the ultimate mini computing machines. They are extremely powerful and often not used to their maximum capabilities. People are accustomed to using them for time wasting (a la Facebook), games, music listening and video watching, and sometimes phone calls and text messages too. However they also can really help you run business computer service operations while on the go. Here’s a rundown of some of our more favorite office-related app’s of the day, most of which are free in the App Store.

  • ·         WordPress has a great free app available that will help you post to your WP blog or website straight from your phone. The interface is super user friendly and easy to navigate. You can post blog entries or photos, and tag them accordingly. Very helpful for those in engrained in the WordPress world.
  • ·         UPS  - What can Brown do for you? They can give you a free app that helps you track packages from the comforts of your phone. You can also setup pickups with this app too. Excellent for those of you that have logistics needs.
  • ·         Adobe Reader is another free app that allows you a little more functionality than the smartphone’s built-in PDF browser. The search functions are more robust, as are the navigation menu’s. If you deal with a lot of PDF’s throughout your day, this free add-on is worth the download.
  • ·         TinyScan is an excellent free app that allows you to take a photo with your smartphone and convert it to a PDF. Pretty self-explanatory, and more helpful than you may realize at first. PDF’s are here to stay. For now.
  • ·         HP ePrint is another freebie that allows you to print to your networked HP printer. No more need to email to yourself and then print from the computer. Now you can print direct from your phone – anything. Print away.
Nowadays, your mobile office has never been more powerful. Pocket Power!
