Monday Essentials: Sleep to End Homelessness, Natalie Portman, Venice Neighborhood Council and More

Here are five things to know for the upcoming week in Venice and Mar Vista.

1. Join the 3rd annual Sleep Out to End Homelessness on Sat. Aug. 24 in front of Beyond Baroque at 681 Venice Blvd starting at 2 p.m. Among the guest speakers will be Speakers will CD 11 Councilmember Mike Bonin, Carol Sobel of the National Lawyers Guild and Steve Clare of the Venice Community Housing Corporation. 2. If you’re one of those people that loves to know which celebrities were hanging out in Venice this past weekend then head over to Just Jared to see Natalie Portman, Benjamin Milipied and their son Aleph (whose name is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet – go figure!), enjoying their time at Gjelina.

3. The Venice Neighborhood Council will meet at 6:3o p.m. on Tuesday at Westminster Elementary School Auditorium, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd.  Among the items on the agenda will be the Venice Zip Line status. For the full agenda and details, go here.

4. Police arrested 366 motorists suspected of drunken driving during a three-day countywide crackdown.  The “Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI Campaign'' -- a part of the Summer/Labor Day National Anti-DUI effort -- began at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ended midnight Saturday.
