Today in Venice-Mar Vista: $25 Santa Monica Library Fee, GMOs, Online Petitions

The Mar Vista Community Council wants Santa Monica to find ways to generate income for its library services other than charging non-residents.

Here are five things for your Monday and beyond in Venice-Mar Vista:

  1. The Mar Vista Community Council Board of Directors will consider approving a letter to the city of Santa Monica, voicing reasons for opposition to the city's $25 annual library fee now being assessed non-residents who want to check out materials from the Santa Monica Library. The item is on the agenda of a meeting Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Mar Vista Recreation Center's auditorium, 11430 Woodbine St. Agenda here.
  2. An online petition to "save" the neighborhood from the proposed mixed-use development at 1414 Main St. is here.
  3. A change.org petition asking a medical marijuana business owner not to continue with his plans to move his business to 3472 S. Centinela Blvd. is online. The petition and comments are here.
