????? So, when a hit and run occurs and someone calls police, they can't trace the car to it'sRead More owner? Even if it's stolen the chances of catching the individual before the car is ditched is slim. My other objection is the more "alerts" you put up the less people will pay attention to them. Do you think they'll be putting up alerts to remind us to bring home a loaf of bread?
gene smith July 24, 2014 at 11:20 am
Ms. White should pay a little more attention to the way things really are.....not just live in aRead More dreamland where things have no relationship to other things. The Politicians in Los Angeles are allowing it's destruction, and in many cases encouraging it. I have no idea why, but the facts of the matter speak clearly for the inaction we have to witness and pay for the consequences of. Check History. Hit and Run Accidents have increased dramatically...WHY? There are no consequences.

@Cathy White “Has nothing to do with any particular political affiliations” … OkRead More if you say so, just like STDs have no particular affiliations with any type of safe sex practice or lack thereof!

This happened on July 9 and the pic is released today July 21?
roxana July 22, 2014 at 08:51 am
Wed July 9th and the police are just now getting around to releasing the suspect's sketch? I live inRead More the neighborhood and would have appreciated the heads up. I read all SM media and never saw anything about this. I guess it's everyone for themselves in east SM.
Nanci Linke Ellis July 22, 2014 at 11:03 am
You are making an assumption that the victim came forward on July 21st. This is not always theRead More case. I'd rather give the SMPD the benefit of the doubt here without knowing all the facts.

Yes, one wants to make sure they can effective continue to %^&* the taxpayers in ^&* withoutRead More any meddling. Just like the rest of LA City employees....Can we go bankrupt yet? The only city services that seem to still work effectively is enriching these public union slugs on the taxpayers backs

The CHP Officer clearly needs anger management classes, probably should be tested for steroid use,Read More suspended without pay and face possible termination. Thank God for cell phone videos ... Hard for CHP to justify such force. Honey, you deserve every penny coming to you and then some! Sadly, though, NOT ONE onlooker went to the victims defense to pull the Officer off of her :(

John Humphrey July 19, 2014 at 09:40 pm
Too bad the criminal justice system does not take this kind of stuff more seriously. If they didRead More there would probably be fewer instances of "flight rage." Start sending these people to jail for some serious time and the message will get out that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.
Teresa DeCrescenzo July 20, 2014 at 04:04 pm
As unpleasant as I'm sure it was, how seiously ought we to take acting out like that on a plane,Read More given the serious problems we face as a society? Twenty years for possibly being mentally ill or drunk? Tratment or rehab and ban him from flying for five years. That will teach him a lesson and avoid a couple of million dollars in the cost of housing him in a prison.

ATC July 19, 2014 at 08:15 am
This lawsuit will never make it into a courtroom. And that's exactly how she and her lawyer want it.Read More The bus company will instead settle for some huge amount out of court. Why? Because that will still be cheaper than the cost of fighting it in court. That's the huge flaw in our system, and that's why there are thousands of bogus claims filed every day. The goal is always a settlement, not a court judgment. Nobody is responsible for their own actions anymore; instead we sue. Stupid SHOULD hurt; but instead it's become a payout.
TC July 20, 2014 at 11:21 am
It's nice to read posts from people with common sense @iscott, HCooper and ATC. People are alwaysRead More looking to cash in for their bad choices and there is always a lawyer waiting in the wings to take on cases of this sort.
summer July 20, 2014 at 12:13 pm
I'm quite sure the drivers tell their passengers to remain seated when the bus is in motion. IRead More could be wrong, but I'd put money on it. I personally think the driver should counter sue as I'm sure the injuries she incurred with her stupidity has impacted him or her to some degree.

"City Attorney Mike Feuer said the entire operation violates Proposition D, which limits theRead More number of legal dispensaries allowed in the city, and is an unauthorized and unpermitted use of the property on Esperanza Street. He also claims the operation creates a public nuisance due to traffic and large crowds, creating safety hazards and blocking access to nearby properties." Not that I would ever attend, and the anti-Prop D argument will probably be found valid, but I just hate LA's continued embrace of double-standards by our paid employees; so, a small soliloquy is in order-- "Weekly yard & sidewalk & easement & vacant lot Used Crap Sales, and industrious Shade Tree mechanics cluttering up the front yards & working past midnight, crowing roosters at 3 AM, and illegal garage & storage shed conversions aside, let me address this one glaring oversight I noticed in zoning laws. All those ubiquitous Taco Trucks parked on the side of the road every 1/4 mile with their tables and chairs blocking the sidewalk for pedestrian & bike traffic. I'm sure they're in complete compliance with the law; especially the one utilizing Discount Tire's parking lot at Sherman Way & Laurel Canyon after dark-- with the cabanas, tables, portable lights & scores of famished people eating Roach Coach slop-- and not an Andy Gump in sight. "Wash our hands? We don't need no stinking washed hands!" Yet, law-abiding citizens know those retail food operations are in complete compliance with business codes, zoning ordinances, health codes, business taxes; and, they do not create a traffic hazard, disrupt the neighborhood with their flashing lights & blaring Ranchero music, or draw an unsavory clientele looking for post-fandango borracho barocho. But a Farmer's Market for a naturally growing plant is deemed a nuisance, unlawful, and harmful to ALL Angelinos. Please...anyone have a spare Saint's ankle bone? I have a dire need for salvation from persecution for a personal belief and physical journey as I slowly migrate away from fermented wheat, yeast & hops in a responsible manner. But hey, as long as the tax-dodging plebeians can gorge themselves on lard & cheap cuts of meat while swilling warm GMO corn syrup laced Budweiser while imbibing pesticide & miticide treated bunk Mexican Cartel Skunk Weed--cough...cough...courtesy of the Zeta Cartel and delivered by Vato street-side-- except that Shake-filled Cartel U-Haul just popped in Bakersfield-- who can judge? Why me, of course! What a bunch of hypocrites. Please with my blessing continue forward towards obesity, diabetes, alcoholism, and lung cancer loyal plebes-- and remember Special Order 90-32-A(1)-- salted meat and sugared vino for all...." Proceed to crucify.

Well "Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joanne O'Donnell" Judge Judy look-a-like this is aRead More free market society & it promotes competition & that is good for the medical need. So you impeded the peoples wishes & the design of the law without authority. As for Mike Feuer & his Potty mouth I think both of you need to be impeached.
Buster July 21, 2014 at 08:08 pm
Mike Feuer is an ignorant dumb ass.... Hopefully this will serve to end his political career.

So tragic, terribly sad, just awful. Prior to the trip, don't these busses warn people not to standRead More up on the upper deck?
Oezden Aynali July 13, 2014 at 09:24 pm
Please, I have a request of prosecutors, please. Please go to the accident site on the same busRead More with the same driver, denn Please take same place, on which the boy was sitting, Please Stop the bus under the bridge. Please take in your hand a meter. Sitting, please measure the distance between your forehead and the roof of the bridge. Please Write the result on your Paper. If there is a roadsign at The Bridge down outstanding, please measure that too. I saw in googleearth 3 Bridges on the Bus way. Please write the Measure for these Bridges too with same way. And Please ask to Witnesses, whether the boy could touch his head before Bridges. (Maybe first, oder seconds Bridge). Because The Wittness said, they didn't see. but they heard the scream. I pleased from you that, because it must be made, may be, a rules between the Bridges and double decker bus. Many Thanks, Oezden Aynali (Germany)
Robert Illes July 14, 2014 at 04:00 pm
It's a lawsuit all right, unless (or perhaps no matter if) there is a warning sign or there wasRead More verbal warming from the driver to sit - and probably sit low - as for some stupid effing reason the double decker bus is going under freeway overpasses. These buses I generally see on surface streets. What was the big hurry (to necessitate driving on the freeway)? And aren't people buckled in, especially when riding on the freeway? The overpass I imagine comes up very quickly and if you're not paying attention, and for whatever reason stand up... Very sorry for the family and the boy's friends. A terrible tragedy that should never have happened.

@Autumn - I can think of many adjectives that literally mean "to hit hard". There's noRead More excuse whatsoever for the poor choice of words Penny used, and there are SEVERAL more PROFESSIONAL words that can be used while still keeping her headline small. Come on, give me a break! Unfortunately this isn't the first article of Penny's that isn't up to the "professionalism" I'd expect from a news writer. I have heard from friends of friends of the family the condition of the boy, but I don't feel it's appropriate to comment here about that, due to privacy issues. Prayers and thoughts to ALL involved. :(

Agree with D. Guess the rest of L.A. is doing great crime wise. ..or is someone cooking the books..maybe we allRead More should move out of Hollywood, Garcetti's old council district that he has left in an on going violent crime shambles, before we get shot, knifed, or raped, to all these other 'safe' places. Bring on more of his beloved nightclubs, cheap shot bars, density, glass and steel skyscrapers...more more more.. bring in the party buses to Hollywood, the big party place (this is his revitalized 'economic development'), and more drunken shootouts, guaranteed. He has created his west coast version of Times Square, before revitalization.. and without the Broadway Theaters, with the help of the irresponsible C.I.M., BID, and Hollywood Chamber..They are destroying Hollywood..none of them actually live here.. Think of what he can, and will do with the rest of L.A! His crime stats are as 'fatally flawed' as was his false population data to justify his illegal higher density (to accommodate his developer funder's projects), Hollywood Community Plan, that a judge threw out calling his numbers..'fatally flawed' and 'wishful thinking' Why would anyone believe anything he has to say about any data or stats at this point? About anything for that matter.
