Join the Santa Monica Airport Bike Ride This Sunday

By Kelly Hartog

Santa Monica Spoke will sponsor a bike ride around Santa Monica Airport this Sunday, Sept. 15 starting at 10 a.m. in Clover Park, 2600 Ocean Park Blvd. Santa Monica, 90405. Participants should meet at the southwest corner of the park next to the SMO fence.

According to Santa Monica Spoke, the airport is a part of the city of Santa Monica that many residents rarely see and use - and even fewer see it by bike. With efforts underway to turn SMO into a park (see related story here), Spoke is hosting the 4.5-mile ride around the perimeter of SMO so participants can learn about the issues surrounding the airport and to discuss future possibilities.

The ride incorporates two short hills and frequent stops to talk about issues related to the Santa Monica Airport. The ride is family friendly, free and open to the public. Participants are asked to bring a bike lock, a helmet and even a picnic lunch if you’re so inclined.

Ride leaders who will speak during the ride include:
