Summer Continues with Art, Wine Tasting, Live Music, and Comedy!

Things to do this week in Venice include a volunteer opportunity, the first non-profit in a series to be featured on Venice Patch.

As August draws to a close with the kids heading back to school and vacations a distant memory, there are still plenty of events during the weekdays to cheer you up and remind you that living in Venice really is an endless summer!

There are many non-profit organizations in Venice that serve our community. Over the next few weeks local non-profits will be featured in this column.

The Mildred Cursh Foundation is 9-year-old organization founded by Antoinette Reynolds that primarily serves the Oakwood Community in Venice with programs for children whose parents are in prison.

Programs include after-school tutoring, food distribution, summer events (such as an annual fishing trip) and educational events, many held at the First Baptist Church of Venice. The name honors Mildred Cursh Reynolds, who lived in Oakwood and was intrumental in creating the Concerned Parents Group and the Oakwood Beautification Committee.  An upcoming fundraiser for the foundation will be at the Vera Davis Center on Nov. 4 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The $15 admission includes live music from Love Serenade and food. See the website for more details on programs and to get involved.
