VIDEO: Scientists Examine Rare Beaked Whale Found on Venice Beach

Marine biologists are working to preserve and examine a 13 1/2-foot Stejneger's beaked whale found in Venice Beach Tuesday.

Scientists at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum are examining the roughly 13 1/2-foot Stejneger's beaked whale, that washed ashore Tuesday night between the Venice Pier and Marina del Rey, according to a video report.

The rare whale, sometimes called a saber-toothed whale because of its sharp teeth, was still alive and covered in shark bites when it was pulled from the shoreline but died shortly thereafter, said Peter Wallerstein of of Marine Animal Rescue.
