Westside Weekend Get Out Guide

Here are our picks when you're ready to step out this weekend on the Westside.

The winter storms blowing through Los Angeles should clear up by the weekend and sunny skies are predicted to return — just in time to grab the kids, spouse, or significant other and take in these Westside events.

Pacific Palisades - Learn how to create a sustainable garden at The Surfrider Foundation's "Ocean Friendly Garden" workshop on Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location is a residence, the address of which will be given to you when you register.

In the morning, the workshop covers removing turf, retaining rain water and preventing runoff, installing landscape features and available rebates for sustainable gardening. In the afternoon, participants will learn about healthy soil, climate-friendly plants and mulching to conserve water.

Remember to bring along gardening tools, gloves, rakes, shovels and sun block. You can take in just part of the workshop if you can't stay the whole six hours. Refreshments will be provided.

To reserve a spot and learn the exact location, email ljmack1@gmail.com.

Santa Monica - Kids can have breakfast with the Easter Bunny and get their pictures taken on Saturday, 10 a.m., at The Market, 395 Santa Monica Place.

Tickets are $5 per child over 2 years old and can be purchased online. The breakfast is for children only. A part of the proceeds will benefit Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA.

For information, email michele@spinprgroup.com or call 310-260-8333.

Culver City - The movie Trashed, an environmental documentary with Jeremy Irons presented by Transition Culver City, gets a screening Saturday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the showing at 7 p.m. in the reDiscover Center, 12958 W. Washington Blvd.

The film explores the spread of global waste and its impact on some of the world's most beautiful locations. Admission is free, but you can make a donation. A discussion will follow the screening.

For information, call 310-393-3636.

Marina del Rey - Treat your pooch to a meet and greet Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Oberrieder Park at the corner of Bluff Creek and Seabluff drives in Playa Vista.

Doggie Central and Playa Vista will provide coffee, fresh fruit and bagels for you and doggie treats for your pet at the monthly mixer.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.
